Probation Placement Information

Probation Departments are responsible for overseeing the safety and progress of delinquent children placed in out-of-home care by the Court. The Probation Officer must develop a case plan that works toward family reunification as well as developing a permanent plan for the minor. Probation Officers must comply with the same federal and state laws and regulations as Social Workers in the Child Welfare System.

The Administrative Office of the Courts, Center for Families, Children & the Courts now have several updated resources available for Court Adoption and Permanency Month in November 2007, as well as for throughout the year. A new supplement to last year’s Court Adoption and Permanency Resource Guide provides information on permanency-focused programs and resources that can be used by courts and their partners. Several of these new programs focus on finding family-and life-long connections for children, especially youth preparing to transition out of foster care at age 18 or older. In addition, a new calendar lists events taking place around the state during Court Adoption and Permanency Month in November, including Adoption Saturdays. CD-ROMs with both the guide and supplement will be available in early November and will go to all presiding judges of the juvenile courts, directors of each county's Department of Social Services, chief probation officers, and CASA directors. These resources are also already available on our Web site:
