The Board of Supervisors appointed Gina Johnson to the position of Chief Probation Officer, effective July 11, 2023. Chief Johnson has served the Probation Agency since 1991. For the past 10 years, she has served as the Chief Deputy Probation Officer and, most recently, the Interim Chief Probation Officer.

“Chief Johnson has been with the department for 33 years and seen every nook and cranny of the organization,” said Chair of the Board of Supervisors, Matt LaVere. “The Probation Agency is a complex organization and I have all the confidence in the world that she will succeed in this role.”

Chief Johnson began her career with the Probation Agency as a Deputy Probation Officer. She ascended the agency’s ranks to Chief Deputy Probation Officer in 2013. She was appointed to the role of Interim Chief Probation Officer in January 2023.

In addition to her dedicated service, Chief Johnson brings a depth of knowledge to the role having worked in many assignments including court services, community supervision, adult & juvenile detention/ commitment facilities, and administration. She will lead an agency of over 400 staff members and an operating budget of approximately $80 million.

The Ventura County Probation Agency is res­ponsible for the community supervision of adults and youth on probation, the operation of the County’s youth detention facility, and the oversight of a variety of community-based programs aimed to rehabilitate participants and reduce recidivism.
