Foster Care Training: Identifying Family Connections and Building Support Networks for Youth- Sacramento
In 2017, Continuum of Care Reform brought together a series of existing and new reforms to California’s child welfare services program, which was designed out of an understanding that children who must live apart from their biological parents do best when they are cared for in committed nurturing family homes. This reform along with other initiatives increased the need for California’s juvenile probation departments to find ways to meaningfully engage immediate and extended family members in helping youth to succeed on probation. This eight-hour training is designed for line staff, supervisors, and managers interested in learning new family finding strategies and techniques for locating and effectively engaging family and involving them in case planning activities to benefit the youth. The goal of engagement is to ensure family members play a supportive role in the youth’s life, regardless of where the youth resides. The training will help staff and supervisors develop approaches to easily integrate this work into their daily activities of case management.
