Live Webinar – Overview of the Fair Chance Act
Provided by the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH)
Course description:
The Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) will provide an overview of the Fair Chance Act, new regulations that provide critical guidance related to criminal history in housing and the new Source of Income law (Section 8 is now protected in California). DFEH is the state agency charged with enforcing California’s civil rights laws. The mission of the DFEH is to protect the people of California from unlawful discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations and from hate violence and human trafficking. Probation, as a critical provider to those coming out of jail, is on the front lines of ensuring the Fair Chance Act supports the strengthening of the voices of people most affected by incarceration. Now, because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), with thousands of incarcerated folks released both from State prison and local jails, it is even more critical to ensure the protections are in place and the citizens of California know their rights.
