One of the most unique aspects of supervising a domestic violence caseload is working with the victim in addition to the probationer.  In these caseloads there are unique dynamics which can include increased interaction with the victim, interaction with potential new victims, all while serving the crucial role as a probation officer in protecting public safety, and ensuring the service and empowerment of DV victims.  Due to the heightened experience of secondary trauma sometimes associated with supervision of these caseloads, officers can benefit by learning valuable self-care practices that enable them to recognize signs of toxic stress and take proactive steps to maintain their well-being. This course will cover recommended strategies for victim contact and victim-centered offender supervision.  Legal mandates that address the officer’s interactions with the victim, legal orders such as restraining and stay-away conditions, the importance of developing professional contacts to assist with these unique caseloads, and self-care strategies will be addressed.
