Think Trauma: Think Trauma: A Training for Working with Justice-Involved Youth

Training

Youth in the juvenile justice system often carry the weight of significant trauma, which can shape their development, emotions, and behavior in profound ways. Without proper understanding, justice professionals may misinterpret trauma-driven behaviors as defiance or aggression, leading to missed opportunities for support and healing. This training equips juvenile justice officers and other professionals with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to recognize and respond effectively to trauma, fostering resilience and positive development among system-involved youth.  Through a series of interactive modules, participants will learn how trauma impacts brain development, attachment, and coping strategies, as well as how justice systems themselves can unintentionally perpetuate harm. The training emphasizes both youth-centered approaches and officer well-being, ensuring professionals are prepared to engage with youth in ways that are supportive, safe, and developmentally informed.
