PROMISING STRATEGIES TO SERVE AND SUPPORT YOUTH WITH COMPLEX CARE NEEDS

Sometimes counties may experience challenges in finding suitable placement and/or services for a youth with complex needs. In the first part of the session, Dr. Loc H. Nguyen will cover various placement settings outside of short-term residential therapeutic programs (STRTPs) for youth with acute needs. The second half of the session will cover various complex care funding opportunities through the enactment of AB 153. The California Department of Social Services will provide a high-level overview of these three different complex care funding categories: 1) child specific requests for exceptional needs 2) county capacity building to address gaps within the continuum of care and 3) the Children’s Crisis Continuum Pilot. In this part of the session, Los Angeles County Probation Department and Riverside County Probation Department will share their experiences in these funding efforts.
