OROVILLE, Calif. – The Butte County Probation Department hosted a graduation Wednesday night for families in its 12-week Strengthening Families Program.

Seven families walked across the stage Wednesday night, got a certificate and started on their new lives together.

The probation department started this program in 2016. Since then, 100 families have graduated. Each family has either a kid or adult on probation, and they teach them skills to grow closer together as a family.

Dozier has two kids and is on probation for five years. She says this program has given her a second chance at life.

“They are proud of me,” said Dozier. “This morning my nephews, they said I’m so proud of you auntie for graduating and doing your best. That feels awesome, that feels really good to hear that.”

These families will continue to have support from their probation officers who will help them get jobs and enter other programs for help.

The Strengthening Families Program is now taught in all 50 states and 36 other countries.
