MONTEREY, Calif. – July 2, 2026 –  Monterey County Probation has partnered with the Monterey County Office of Education and Fab Lab to bring hands-on STEM learning to youth at the Monterey County Youth Center through an exciting new Green Car Project.

Working in small teams, youth assemble individual components that come together to create a fully functioning green car, building skills in collaboration, problem-solving, and engineering along the way. Fab Lab staff have praised the youth for their engagement and dedication, while adapting lessons and pacing to ensure a successful learning experience.

The project has quickly become a favorite among participants, who have enjoyed the opportunity to build and ride their completed green cars. Looking ahead, the youth are excited to participate in races against other juvenile facilities across the state, showcasing the skills and teamwork they’ve developed through this innovative program.
