Officers Find Explosive During Probation Check in Ceres, Officials Say

CERES, Calif., July 30, 2025 — Officers conducting a probation compliance check at a residence in Ceres on Tuesday uncovered an explosive device, according to the police department.

Officials said Stanislaus County Probation Officers were conducting a compliance check in the 3900 block of Blaker Road when they found what appeared to be an explosive device.

Ceres police said they immediately evacuated nearby residences and closed surrounding roadways as the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the home.

Officials on Wednesday said the device was confirmed to be an actual explosive, and it was homemade. It was taken to a secure location and later “rendered safe.”

Ceres police said Janmichael Valdez, 45, was arrested for possession of an explosive device.
