San Luis Obispo County Probation Department Honors Probation Services Week 2025

Article

San Luis Obispo County, Calif., July 15, 2025 - Chief Probation Officer Robert Reyes announced that Probation Services Week will be celebrated July 20-26, 2025. The week honors probation professionals who help build safer communities by providing justice-involved individuals with court-ordered supervision, accountability and access to services that support long-term rehabilitation. All 50 states honor the nation’s pretrial, probation and parole professionals during the month of July.

Today, the Board of Supervisors recognized the Probation Department by reading a resolution commemorating Probation Services Week 2025. This year marks the 19th year the Board has recognized Probation Services Week.

Probation professionals serve on the front lines of California’s criminal and juvenile justice systems, promoting public safety through a unique model that blends, supervision and accountability and evidence-based rehabilitation. Probation’s scope of responsibility includes investigative and sentencing reports to the courts, community supervision of justice-involved individuals, operation of local youth custody facilities, and restitution collection on behalf of crime victims.

Chief Probation Officer Reyes stated, “San Luis Obispo County Probation officers and administrative professional staff deliver probation services in a fair and consistent manner that is expected by the public, with the belief that people can change, and a dedication to public safety.”

In San Luis Obispo County and across California, probation delivers a cost-effective, community-based alternative to incarceration that protects public safety while improving lives. By addressing the root causes of criminal behavior and helping people transition successfully out of the justice system, probation departments are critical to building safer and better communities for all.

Probation Services Week is a time to honor the dedication of probation professionals who work every day to make our communities safer and stronger.
