VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. —​ September 3, 2026 — A Ventura County Juvenile Facilities client recently reached a significant educational milestone, earning two Associate of Arts degrees from Oxnard College while in the care of Ventura County.

Alex earned degrees in Society, Human Behavior and Culture and Creative Arts and Humanities, completing both programs through his commitment to education while at the facility.

More than 60 people gathered to celebrate Alex’s achievement, including representatives from Oxnard College, Ventura County Behavioral Health, the Ventura County Board of Education, and the City of Oxnard. Oxnard Mayor Luis McArthur also presented Alex with a certificate recognizing his accomplishment.

Alex is already looking ahead to his next educational goal. He plans to continue his education in spring 2027, pursuing a degree in Business Administration through the California State University system, and is currently exploring CSU campus opportunities.

Alex’s accomplishment demonstrates what can be possible when young people have access to educational opportunities and a network of educators, service providers, community leaders, and others committed to supporting their success.

While the community played an important role in supporting his educational journey, Alex’s achievement ultimately reflects his own hard work, persistence, and commitment to reaching his goals.
