HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT: WORKING WITH LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, QUESTIONING, GENDER NONCONFORMING AND TRANSGENDER (LGBQ/GNCT) JUSTICE-INVOLVED YOUTH

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth are disproportionately represented in the juvenile justice system. Approximately one in five youth in juvenile justice detention nationwide is LGBTQ+. What does it mean to serve these youth equitably and respectfully? How do probation staff create safe and affirming spaces for youth across the gender and sexuality spectrums? Explore these questions (and more!) in this interactive workshop geared toward those wanting to learn—or practice— skills to best serve this vulnerable population.
