This course provides an overview of adult court writing for new probation officers or anyone transitioning into an adult investigations assignment.  Day-one content includes probation’s investigative expectations defined in the Penal Code and Rules of Court, evidence-based practices guiding sentencing recommendations, dispositional options, strikes and Romero motions, victim considerations, and information gathering and interviews.  The basic determinate sentencing block on day-two covers probation eligibility, suitability, aggravation, mitigation, 654 PC evaluations, and multi-crime/multi-case punishment calculations.  Active student participation is critical, and all students will be expected to engage, despite the remote-learning environment.
