Domestic Violence Offenders: Assessing Risk – Clovis

This eight-hour course explores both practical and research-based information on the importance of identifying risk factors and using appropriate risk assessment tools to develop supervision case plans for domestic violence offenders. Trainees will learn how criminal history, substance use, employment, antisocial personality and attitude, and individual factors contribute to a domestic violence offender’s risk level, and how dynamic risk factors can be addressed by applying the Risk-Need-Responsivity principles as a framework. Commonly used risk assessment tools and how to use them effectively will be covered, with a focus on the Domestic Violence Screening Instrument-Revised (DVSI-R), Danger Assessment (DA), Spousal Assault Risk Assessment (SARA), Conflict Tactics Scales-2 (CTS/CTS-w), Ontario Domestic Assault Risk-Assessment (ODARA), and the Violence Risk Appraisal Guide (VRAG). Trainees will increase their risk assessment knowledge and skills for working effectively with domestic violence offenders.
