This course provides an overview of the statutory authority for probation officers and deputy probation officers in California.  The course content includes peace officer authority and limitations; other sources of authority for a variety of adult and juvenile probation officer field functions, including arrest, search, detention, supervision, revocation/violation, flash incarceration, and placement; as well as a review of certain key mandated functions and variations to departmental policy as they relate to this authority.

Target Audience:

The course is designed for deputy probation officers with less than three years in field supervision as well as for supervising probation officers who seek a refresher on probation authority.
