This course provides an overview of the statutory authority for probation officers and deputy probation officers in California. Course content includes peace officer authority and limitations; other sources of authority for a variety of adult and juvenile probation officer field functions, including arrest, search, detention, supervision, revocation/violation, flash incarceration, and placement; as well as a review of certain key mandated functions and variations to departmental policy as they relate to this authority.

Target Audience:

This course is designed for deputy probation officers with fewer than three years of field supervision experience, as well as supervising probation officers seeking a refresher on probation authority.
