Training

This introductory training provides a clear, practical overview of
California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM), with a focus on
its Justice-Involved (JI) initiative. Participants will learn how the CalAIM
Section 1115 waiver evolved to expand Medi-Cal’s role in addressing
complex health and social needs, particularly for individuals
transitioning from incarceration to the community.
The session will outline the key components of CalAIM, including
Enhanced Care Management (ECM) and Community Supports, and
explain how these services intersect with probation, jails, Medi-Cal
managed care health plans, and community-based providers. Emphasis
will be placed on the goals of improving care coordination, promoting
warm handoffs, reducing recidivism, and strengthening outcomes
through cross-system collaboration.

Target Audience: Designed for corrections staff and system partners, this training establishes a
foundational understanding of CalAIM’s structure, intent, and operational implications, preparing
participants to engage more effectively in implementation efforts and interagency partnerships.
