San Rafael, Calif. – August 12, 2025 –  The Marin County Probation Department collaborated with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a compliance sweep on October 30 to ensure accountability among individuals on active supervision for sex offenses.

The large-scale effort focused on 12 individuals, most of whom are registered sex offenders pursuant to Penal Code 290. Throughout the operation, Probation officers and deputies performed detailed searches of residences, vehicles, and electronic devices including cell phones, tablets, computers, video game consoles, smart TVs, and external storage devices to verify compliance with probation terms and identify potential violations.

“These operations are about more than enforcement; they’re about protecting our community and reinforcing the importance of accountability,” said Chief Probation Officer Marlon Washington. “Public safety begins with consistent oversight and collaboration. Our team remains committed to ensuring that individuals under supervision are supported in their rehabilitation while maintaining the highest standards of responsibility.”

Operation results included:

  • 12 total targets identified
  • 6 successful contacts
  • 3 attempted contacts
  • 7 probation searches conducted
  • 10 electronic devices searched (6 cell phones, 2 tablets, 2 gaming consoles)
  • Property seized for investigation: 1 safe, 2 laptop computers, 3 cell phones, 2 iPads, and 1 SD card
  • 1 vehicle searched
  • 1 arrest made for non-compliance

In anticipation of the sweep, department staff organized an internal fundraiser to support the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Through the sale of custom black-and-orange T-shirts and patches, the team raised $1,385, with 100% of proceeds donated to NCMEC. The fundraiser not only unified staff around a meaningful cause but also underscored the department’s broader commitment to child safety and victim advocacy.

Marin County Probation remains firmly committed to its mission of advancing public safety, integrity, and empowerment. By balancing accountability with opportunities for rehabilitation, the department continues to support justice-involved individuals, uplift victims of crime, and serve the Marin community with compassion, fairness, and professionalism.
