Marina Kisseleva-Cercone has worked in the field of Probation Services for over 21 years. I started my career as the Deputy Probation Officer in the Juvenile Division of the Solano County Probation Department and years later, I ended up in the Contra Costa County Probation Department’s Juvenile Placement Unit. Over the years, I have worked in varied assignments across juvenile and adult divisions, promoting to a supervisor, then a manager, and now a director overseeing the Specialty Field Services which includes the Pretrial Unit. Probation work is unique in the sea of law enforcement as it provides a very special opportunity to witness behavioral change that is possible through evidence-based interventions and informed decisions. The beauty is that it doesn’t exclusively apply to the clients we serve in our respective communities, but also to our staff and colleagues as we learn and evolve together modeling behaviors we want to replicate and support one another in lifting up our individual lived experiences as public servants for the greater good of our agencies and communities as a whole.
