Probation Officer Tiffany Stokes of the Fresno County Probation Department was recognized by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) this past month for her invaluable work with the rehabilitation of human trafficking victims. She was recommended by a number of leaders in her local community who strongly commended her passion and dedication to the youth she works with on a daily basis.

California has reduced usage of local detention facilities by 60% and successfully serves 90% of youth in the juvenile justice system within our communities.

Sacramento, Calif. – November 8, 2019 – The Judicial Council of California recently found that California Probation Departments have been highly-effective in implementing evidence-based practices while protecting public safety since the implementation of Senate Bill 678. The SB 678 program helped lead to the revamp of California Probation’s practices to adopt more evidence-based, scientifically-supported approaches that have yielded considerable positive results.

“I made some bad decisions and it caught up with me,” she says in an interview about her journey. However, she did not allow those decisions to define her.

Probation Officer Recognized for Saving Life
Sutter County Deputy Probation Officer Amy Depew was recognized by the Sutter County Board of Supervisors on September 24, for an act of heroism.
In early August of 2019, in the evening hours and while off-duty, Officer Depew received a call from police officers concerning an 18-year-old young man who was threatening to jump from a bridge. He was also holding a knife against his stomach.
Despite their best efforts, the police officers were unable to talk the man down from the bridge.
Nevada County Probation Highlights New Vision for Youth
The Nevada County Juvenile Hall has a new name, and a new purpose. Now known as the Nevada County Carl F. Bryan II Youth Center, the hall will continue to provide secure services for those few youths who need a safe place to reset their life on a positive path and get the help and services they need, but it will also service other youth by partnering with additional programs.

Pretrial Reform Pilot Programs Awarded Today Over $72 Million for 16 Counties; Funding aimed at implementing evidence-based reforms focused on rehabilitation & the safety of communities
Sacramento, CA, August 9, 2019 – Pretrial reforms are one step closer to becoming an integral part of the justice system today as the Judicial Council of California voted to award funding for 16 County Superior Courts for Pretrial Pilot Programs. In January 2019 the Chief Justice appointed the Pretrial Reform and Operations Workgroup to consider plans to award funding for Pretrial Services as part of Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2019-2020 budget that allocated $75 million.
